Usage

General Comments:

It was used to make a great variety of objects, including chimney-pieces, statuary pieces, table tops, urns and vases, paper-weights, ink-stands, candlesticks, ornamental obelisks and thermometers, small pendants and pieces of jewellery to name but a few (Tomlinson 1996: 12). Many of the above objects were inlaid with other Peak District limestones. Its usefulness for building was virtually confined to internal cladding and paving since it was unsuitable for external use (Clifton-Taylor & Simmons 1987: 186).

Known Usage: Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire: Fireplaces,
Bess of Hardwick's Tomb, Derby Cathedral,
Osborne House, Isle of Wight: Console Tables.
