General Comments: |
It is believed that both the Romans and Normans used the underground quarry at Beer, and Exeter Cathedral has records of cave workings that are continuous since the fourteenth century. Beer stone became popular again during the Victorian period but it has been used intermittently ever since. The area around Hooken Cliffe which is west of Beer Head is also believed to have been quarried (Ashurst and Dimes 1990: 117). |
