General Comments:

Bramley Fall Stone is in great demand largely for engineering works on account of its great strength, examples include the London docks and also the Euston Arch (Clifton-Taylor & Simmons 1987: 135). Locally the stone is used for walling, paving and fireplaces (Leary 1986 : 82). This stone stands up to the smoky atmosphere of industrial cities very well, although in such conditions the stone soon becomes jet black and the pollution is very difficult to remove (Clifton-Taylor & Simmon 1987: 56).

Known Usage: Millwall Docks, London,
Brunswick Dock Buildings, London,
St. Anne's Cathedral, Leeds,
Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds,
King's College, Cambridge: River Wall.
