Oolitic limestone from Bath Oolite Horizon.

General Colour Description:

Cream to light brown in colour. Two beds are quarried, firstly the Top Bed, a cream buff coloured rock which mellows to a honey colour, and the Base Bed which is a light buff colour.

Hand Specimen Description:

A hard, medium grained, oolitic limestone which is moderately well sorted with variable proportions of shell debris. The Top Bed is a fine grained oolitic limestone, whereas the Base Bed is a creamy-buff colour with a fairly coarse structure and many small pieces of shell (Leary 1983: 19).
