General Colour Description:

Silver grey to light grey. A pink variety can also be found here (Clifton-Taylor & Simmons 1987: 150).

Hand Specimen Description:

A very hard, muscovite biotite granite which is coarse grained, crystalline and porphyritic. It is poorly sorted with a hackly fracture.

Petrographic Description:

A muscovite biotite granite comprising quartz, perthitic orthoclase, plagioclase feldspar, biotite and muscovite mica. Accessory minerals include tourmaline, zircon, apatite, cordierite and andalusite.

General Comments:

It is difficult to identify the different types of granite from the south-west of England macroscopically.
