Quarries

General Comments:

Up until the 1800's this stone was taken from surface debris rather than being quarried. Quarrying began in this area in 1845, the largest activity was at Cheesewring Quarry located on the south-east side of Stowe's Hill, although some 'moorstone' cutting was attempted to a lesser extent on the west side of the hill (Stanier 2000: 59).

Known Quarries: Cheesewring Quarry, Bodmin Moor.
