Hand Specimen Description: | A micaceous sandstone. There are three different stone types: the first, 'delph' is a fine grained stone, fawn in colour with darker brown streaks, it is generally used for paving. The second is an ashlar block which is medium grained and more brown in colour than 'delph', this stone is used for wallling. The final stone is a gritstone which is coarse grained, buff or light brown in colour it is used for walling, copings and civil engineering work such as reservoirs (Leary 1986: 86). |
