General Comments: |
The quarries at Grinshill once supplied most of Shropshire but have reduced their production during the 20th century. They yielded large blocks which were well suited for architectural work. Today it is sold as slabs, sawn stone and walling (Stone Industries 1993: 63). White Grinshill stone is the better quality of the two types. Both are very durable stones not affected by acid rain or air pollution (Building Research Establishment: n.d.). |
