Usage

General Comments:

An excellent building stone, although the stone slates were very thick and heavy for roofing purposes. Usually the stone was only exploited for local use in the construction of farm buildings, cottages and churches (Scard 1990: 69). The two beds were quarried together and mixed on the roofs producing a most uneven, and highly textured effect. Very few buildings now have this roof covering (Stone Roofing Association n.d.[a]).

Known Usage: St Michael and All Angel's Church, Pitchford, Shropshire,
Chatwell Hall, Shropshire,
Church Stretton Parish Church, Shropshire.
