General Colour Description: | Two types of bed are used: 'blue' (a blue hearted stone) and 'silver' (a white/cream coloured stone). |
||||||
Hand Specimen Description: | Fine grained, partly oolitic limestones which can be blue-hearted and sandy, especially near the base (Jefferson n.d.: 3). It is the 'Silver' beds from which the building stone was obtained, and it is believed that this is weathered 'Blue' limestone (ibid.). The silver bed is a fine to medium grained, soft, moderately well sorted, bioclastic limestone with occasional large broken shell fragments. |
