Usage

General Comments:

Saddle querns and rotary querns were the common product manufactured at this site from the Late Bronze Age to the Roman period. (Peacock 1987: 71). The earliest material was probably procured by direct access to the quarry site by quernmakers living in neighbouring communities who would fashion the raw material into saddle querns at home. Rotary querns, a later product, were probably shaped and completed in the quarry especially from the later Iron Age by specialists (Peacock 1987: 76).
