General Colour Description: | Light grey/blue in colour. Dark blue when newly quarried it weathers to a pale grey when used externally. It is dense and easily takes a polish which gives a rich chocolate brown shade with subdued fossil markings (Building Research Establishment n.d.). |

Hand Specimen Description: | A very hard, fine grained, fossiliferous (crinoidal) limestone which is moderately well sorted with a smooth feel. Fossils are easily visible to the naked eye when the stone is polished. |
