Introduction
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by WSP Environmental to undertake an archaeological watching brief during geotechnic investigations associated with the proposed redevelopment of land adjacent to Southampton Solent University, Southampton, Hampshire, centred on Ordnance Survey National Grid Reference 442264 112215.
The fieldwork, under Southampton City Museum accession code SOU1604, was undertaken on 21st August 2012, and comprised archaeological monitoring during the excavation of seven geotechnic trial pits. The opportunity was also taken to incorporate the results of as many of seven associated borehole drills logs as were available.
