Title: Wharram. A Study of Settlement on the Yorkshire Wolds, X. Water Resources and their Management.
Filename: Wharram_X_Water_Resources.pdf (19 MB)
Description: This volume deals with the 1972-83 excavations of the medieval dam and pond at the southern end of Wharram Percy deserted medieval village. The earliest remains were associated with a water-powered corn mill of the 9th or early 10th century. The mill was disused by the end of the 13th century, but the pond continued to serve a variety of other purposes. Finds included significant groups of horse bones and horseshoes, marine fish bones and medieval pottery jugs.
