Description: The Morpeth Branch of the Blyth and Tyne Railway was authorised in 1853. It incorporated the mineral railway from Newsham to Bedlington Colliery, opened in 1850, and the branch opened in 1857. The Bedlington section remains open for passenger traffic, and between Bedlington and Morpeth remains in use as a mineral railway.
