The Black Shed, The Village, Lundy


Description:  Large gable-ended shed aligned N/S, opening at the north end, 5 bays.
Roof: corrugated iron, painted black, with iron ridge, one sheet of corrugated fibreglass per bay.
Walls: vertical sheets of corrugated iron, painted black. Two sheets of corrugated fibreglass on the west side.
Floor: concrete.
Doors: a pair of sliding, metal sheet doors on an iron frame.
Modern plank doors (east side) to the public toilets. (1970s/80s)
Interior with concrete block, single storey construction in it, loft overhead is used for storage.
Use: storing wines, spirits, beer barrels, trailer for boxes from boat, luggage collection.
Date: Late 20th century, smaller building shown on the 1906 O.S 6" 2nd edition map and the 1925 sale map, in this position, the outline of the present building is shown on the 1967 O.S. map, but it is not coloured in, so it is not clear whether it was there.
