Smithy, Post Office and Adjoining Cottage at Belton Village


Description:  This building is dated c1838, it is possably designed by Salvin. A cottage adjoins the smithy. Made from Coursed stone rubble, with a slate roof, one storey and attic. Two shaped stone dormers, projecting on corbells. Ground floor right hand three-light stone key and left hand three-light stone mullion both with cornices. Corbelled parapet gable ends with large stone stacks with cornices. Adjoining right (north) small single storey post office, link and adjoining smithy with wide segmental arched doorway and right hand projecting wing with shaped gable containing large horseshoe and dated 1838, below a five-light stone mullion window with wide stone ribbon above. The other end of this wing also has a shaped gable and large stone stack with cornice (DOE. 1980).
