Description:
{2} Building 'C' is the smaller and by far the better defined of the two early medieval structures. It was located at the north-west corner of the enclosure, and its eastern wall appears to have formed a continuation of the palisade structure on the west side of the enclosure, the main structure standing outside the enclosure. The building was orientated north-east to south-west, 6m long and 2.2-2.4m wide internally. Two parallel construction trenches formed the long sides. No end walls were identified, but there was an internal cross-wall. No evidence for a hearth was found, so the building may not have been residential. In the absence of other indications, it is possible that this structure was a granary or store, broadly parallel to the sunken featured buildings found on early Anglo-Saxon sites. More details and ground plan given.
