Railway line (Ashford and Hastings) and Bridge over canal, Warehorne, Ashford, Kent

Description:  Dual track railway between Ashford and Hastings, section within Warehorne Ph, either side of the Royal Military Canal. The line was opened in 1851 by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Company, running between Ashford and Hastings with a connection to St. Leonards, access to which was subject to blocking by the rival South Eastern Railway. The present section consists of one length south-west of the canal where the line is on an embankment across the marsh, while, to the north-east, the line meets the rising ground and crosses the Warehorne road at a level crossing. The river crossing is by a probably 20th century iron girder bridge on brick piers with access by tunnels along both sides of the canal.
