Alignment of former route into Sissinghurst Castle, Cranbrook

Description:  The line of the former northern entrance to Sissinghurst Castle from what is now the bridle way by Horse Race. The route survives as a low (<0.5m) earthwork hidden beneath recent tree planting of a shelterbelt. Part of the route has been obscured by the 20th century farm buildings but it can still be traced heading southwards through the NTcar park. This entrance to the castle and farm had been replaced by the main drive after 1855 and by 1867 this part of the trackway had fallen out of use. This route pre-dates 1767.
