Farm buildings, Lower Brompton Farm


Description:  Barn, contiguous with sheds, stables, etc, of c.1855. English garden wall bond brick, one and a half storeys, tiled gable roof on fine arch-braced collar truss. Decorative ventilation holes. Bull-nosed jamb threshing floor doors hung on sandstone blocks under segmental arch. Similar treatment to other doors. Sandstone tallet steps to SW. Tile and brick threshing floor. The rest of the complex consists of sheds and stables, etc, of a similar date. Gabled with arch collar truss, tiled roof. 3 open bays on SE side; triple segmental header arches supported on a pair of cast iron columns. Loft over. Bull-nosed jamb doors hung on sandstone blocks. Single storey stabled, cart and trap house of same date and construction. Louvred projecting ridge ventilators, heavy frame doors in resated bull-nosed jambs. Single horse stall survives as does harness hooks and hob grate in adjacent harness room.
