Description: Iron Age Hutments. (1) Surveyed at 6-inch scale. A small complex of enclosures centred at SE 05456705 formed by collapsed dry-stone rubble walling. Some of the larger enclosures have integral hut-circles, whilst other huts abut a natural rock outcrop. The remains, which are grouped around two sides of a small valley and stream, seem to conform to the general pattern of many other such sites in the area, of ascribed Iron Age/Romano-British date. See also large scale sketch survey. (2) Condition unchanged. Settlement surveyed at 1:10,000. There are no indications of an associated field system. (3) MORPH reference. (4) Remains are visible on the 2008/9 digital vertical aerial photography and comprise a range of enclosures based around a substantial 'D'-shaped enclosure measuring approximately 100m x 40m internally. At the southern point of the larger enclosure there is a cluster of three smaller enclosures with an average internal diameter of approximately 10m. Ranged along the eastern curvilinear portion of the larger enclosure there are up to four small ancillary enclosures with an average internal diameter of approximately 10m. Abutting the western side of the larger enclosure there appears to be a single enclosure of roughly 10m x 15m dimensions internally. There are a number of smaller internal features which may well represent hut circles. All features noted appear to comprise spread stone banks/walls with some earthwork expression as well. (5)
