D-SHAPED RECLAMATION BANK

Description:  The remains of a roughly D-shaped reclamation bank lie on a flat, sandy foreshore which gradually turns to mudflats towards LWM. The structure encloses an area of sand and mud and a small tidal pool. Immediately to the east is a small stream. The feature consists of single rows of medium sized stones and is quite badly robbed out. Five gaps, which do not appear to have been part of the original construction now punctuate the stone lines, the stone probably having been taken for re-use in the nearby sea-defence wall, and/or a duck-hide to the west. No evidence for buried stone along the lines could be detected. This feature would appear to be an attempt to reclaim an area of foreshore, although the possibility also exists that it represents a 'drowned' or inundated field. It is not represented on the various OS map editions, nor on the IG map.
