BY1820 WAS IN RUINOUS STATE - FARM BUILDINGS DEMOLISHED 1868-9 AND HOUSE DEMOLISHED SOON AFTER. HOUSE GAINED NAME FROM ONE OF ITS OWNERS, ROBERT SIMPSON,WHO DIED IN 1471.NB: CLINCH GIVES LATER DATE FOR PERMISSION TO CRENELATE - SAYS GRANTED BYHENRY V (1413-1422). OS ALSO SUGGESTS C15TH DATE FOR HOUSE.
