Description:  Hospital of St Nicholas...founded 1446 <1a>

In 1446, Wm Glover was granted land 'between the churchyard and the king's highway' upon which to build 'Town Almshouses'. Here, four persons of Newport were maintained until 1836 when the site of the building was required for the enlargement of the churchyard and he inmates were removed to premises in Vineyard Road <1b>
