Description:
Surviving fragment of Chapel of St. John's Hospital, now house. C16 with earlier fragments. Rubble; Welsh slate to left gable roof, old tiles to right; central brick multiple stack, brick stack to right rear. 3-unit plan. Left unit: 3-storeys; single-window range: restored 2-storey arch of Chapel contains late C19 brickwork with 3-light casement to 1st floor, 4-light casement to ground floor. C20, 2-light casement over, under timber lintel. Right unit: single-storey and attic: 2-window range: C20 wood mullion and transom casements, under timber lintel; to left,C20 wood cross window with casements and C18 oak 6-panel door, under common lintel. Two C17, timber-frame and plaster gable dormers over, over, with C19 casements under simple hoods. Far right unit lower and shallower: C20 wood mullion and transom window with casements under oak lintel; C20 brickwork to right gable contains earlier 2-light casement with lattice glazing. Left returned side has 2 late C19, 2/2 sashes to 1st and 2nd floors; roughcast; rubble with some dressed stone exposed to ground floor, with 3-light casement; Welsh slate over. INTERIOR: C17 and C18 doors; exposed timber-framing and ceiling beams; exposed arch and chamfered stone fireplace to ground floor left; winder staircase with stick balusters.
