This area of woodland, a small part of which is recorded as being ancient and semi-natural, is much reduced from the area depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1854. It formed part of the estate of John Harvey of Finningley Park Hall. The ponds within the woodland are not surviving features of the parkland as they do not appear on mapping prior to the 1960s. They are probably related to the gravel extraction that took place on the estate from the mid 1950s onwards. Legibility of the former landscape is fragmentary as the area is still wooded.
