Recreation grounds and playing fields, probably associated with the nearby schools. The 1968 6 inch OS plan shows the area occupied by a slag heap, possibly from nearby quarries. Most of the landfill was probably used to fill in the quarry to the northwest. Before the slag heap, a cricket ground existed on the site. It was first depicted on the 1923 25 inch OS map. Prior to this, the site consisted of fields probably enclosed in a piecemeal fashion during the disparkment of Sheffield Park. Legibility is partial as elements of the slag heap can still be detected on the skyline. Also the track running along the southern edge of the polygon marks a field boundary and track that is depicted on the Fairbanks plan of 1795.
