North Anston was the source for the Magnesian Limestone used to face the Palace of Westminster built between 1840 and 1847, a choice that proved to have been a poor one as it soon became apparent that the stone was not resilient to the sulphurous atmosphere of Victorian London (HCIO 2003). The quarry, which included lime kilns, is shown as disused by the late 19th century and was redeveloped for the present detached housing estate in the second half of the 20th century. Fragmentary legibility of former quarry.
