There were a small number of buildings around town end junction from 1822 mapping. This increased in the late 19th century as this side of town filled up with textile mills. The buildings shown on 1855 maps are likely to have been a mix of residential, small scale industrial and commercial properties. When the ring road was built in the 1980s these buildings were demolished but the junction of the roads remains so there is fragmentary legibility of the past townscape.
