This polygon includes a number of listed buildings, from the 18th and 19th centuries. There is also good evidence for medieval settlement in this vicinity in the form of the Cruck barn (SMR PRN 1361) at Holly House (within this polygon); Whitley Hall (16th century in parts); the site of Whitley Mill (PRN3874); and a scheduled 'wayside' cross (PRN 168). There are also two small strip enclosures to the south east of the village which are indicative (from their reverse 's' morphology) of enclosure from open field agriculture. However there is no other known evidence for either open fields or burgage plots around this area. It is possible that the local landscape reflects significant reorganisation following depopulation of a medieval village. Fragmentary legibility of older building phases.
