Area of regular surveyed enclosure of moorland and common. Still marked as moor on Jefferys map of 1775. Probably part of the Silkstone enclosure award of 1809 (date English 1985). The roads through this area of enclosure probably date from the award as they are very geometric. There is no legibility of the moorland as all fields have been fully improved. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region).
