This area first industrialised soon after the 1851 OS which shows enclosed fields in this location. The SMR records a glassworks at PRN 3994 although by 1891 this plot had become the Don Vitriol (sulphuric acid) Works. Also by 1891 the area is shown as having a unified grid street pattern possibly indicating wholesale division of the land for development. The earlier 20th century mapping shows gradual colonization of the development area by works related to the metal trades. Nearly all of these seem to have been either replaced by more modern units or demolished in the later 20th century. Legibility recorded a fragmentary due to the level of redevelopment of the early 20th century fabric.
