These industrial buildings are the result of piecemeal enlargement of the original buildings (built between 1905 and 1924) over the following 100 years. The buildings are an integral part of the original design of the surrounding terraced streets and are built directly over the River Sheaf, allowing the company to utilise the river water. The buildings are in very good condition with original features such as a chimney still intact. The works stands on the alluvial flood plain of the River Sheaf (Abbeydale Road marks its western edge). This and the appearance of the area on the 1851 and 1891 OS plans suggests a previous type of 'valley floor meadow'. No legibility of earlier landscape.
