Contemporary with and similar in character to much of the Parsons Cross estate to the south, this large scale planned development is mostly social housing of semi-detached morphology. Most properties shown on the 1953 OS although there are some later instances of infill shown on vacant plots on the 1973 and 1988 OS 1:10000 maps. The estate is planned on typical mid twentieth century geometric principles with little regard to the pre-existing field pattern. The boundaries of this polygon include: Carr Lane and Cross Lane (probably ancient routes across and around the open fields; the historic core of Ecclesfield to the north; and a small stream which feeds the Blackburn Brook to the south. There is little legibility of earlier landscapes within this polygon.
