1855 maps show some housing within this polygon but the extensive stretch of terracing doesn’t really occur until 1893. There has been some replacement of terraces with modern housing. The housing is built on an area of piecemeal enclosure. The dating of the enclosures is uncertain but there is place name evidence of Hemingfield from the medieval period (Smith 1961, 103), although this is likely to be just dispersed farms similar to the early 19th century landscape. There is no legibility of this earlier landscape.
