Industrial Period Reservoir built between 1851 and 1893 OS mapping. Up till 1948 labelled on maps as owned by the Dewsbury and Heckmondwike Water Works. Previously an area of parliamentary enclosure of moorland. Earliest maps of this area show that the land to the north of the reservoir is still open moorland in 1851. The reservoir does not follow the field boundaries of the previous enclosure. Legibility is invisible. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region).
