Cemetery with two mortuary chapels, Church of England and Nonconformist. Cemetery is first mapped in 1893 as Wombwell expands to the north west and south east along the alignment of its medieval historic core. This land would have been part of the open town field. It was probably enclosed as part of the 1767 parliamentary enclosure award (date from English 1985). There is fragmentary legibility of the enclosures in the layout of the cemetery.
