Oxspring Primary School which opened in 1880 as a boarding school (Hey 2002,159). At time of construction there was very little to the village of Oxspring apart from the mills along the river. The success of the mills and the construction of the school gave a focus for the village to build up around. The school was built on an area of Surveyed enclosure which had been cut through by the adjacent railway line. There is good survival of the field boundaries around the school property giving partial legibility of the enclosed landscape. Prior to the surveyed enclosure this was probably part of the open town field of Roughbirchworth.
