Commercial properties built on a former school. This was probably the British School which was funded by Beaumont of Bretton Hall in 1856 (Butterworth 2001). British Schools were organised on a system where older students taught the younger ones which was developed by the Quaker Joseph Lancaster (Higginbotham 2000). The school was built on an area of strip fields which may have been enclosed from a medieval open field. There is no legibility of previous landscapes.
