Upland enclosure of Common land retains the placename 'Bents Common' but there are no physical remains of the moorland so legibility is invisible. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region). Straight enclosure period roads and scattered farmsteads. Modern English place names. 1851 map shows a concentration of coal pits in the north-east of the polygon. Date equates to Thurlstone Enclosure Award (English 1985).
