The houses front onto Staniforth Road, an old back lane that used to be called 'Pinfold Lane'. Prior to the housing, the plot formed the northern strip of the Darnall Cricket and Football Ground. The site is shown as part of enclosed strips on the 1835 Sanderson map. The strips were enclosed from the former medieval open field known as 'Near Field'. The legibility is fragmentary as the houses are aligned along an ancient route although this is not readily apparent.
