This site was redeveloped c1969 (Buckland and Magilton 1989, 84) as a large department store. Excavations at the time of demolition of the 'Guildhall' (a mid 19th century courthouse) revealed surviving archaeological levels from the yard of the earlier 'Old Angel Inn' which were followed to 15th century levels before "excavation was abandoned" (ibid.) The writers note that "the new building was constructed on piles… and much of the site remains sealed beneath the shop floor" (ibid). No legibility of earlier buildings.
