Created as a community nature reserve in the late 1990s on the site of a mid twentieth century sewage works this area of land includes the relict track bed of the former Woodhouse-Birley Colliery branch railway (built c1870 and dismantled between 1950 and 1977). There is little obvious remains of the former enclosed strip fields shown on late 19th and early 20th century mapping. Fragmentary legibility of sewerage works and mineral railway.
