This area (shown as urbanised on the 1851 6 inch OS) was redeveloped between 1965 and 1982. Former buildings included vernacular farmsteads and cottages. Present form is late twentieth century commercial and institutional buildings. No legibility of former historic core area. Nb. The historic core of Chapeltown was bisected by the railway on its construction (between 1851 and 1891). The railway has thereafter former a major structuring influence on the settlement and forms the natural eastern edge of this character unit.
