Scrubland on area of dismantled railway lines. The first line through this area was the Hull & Barnsley railway marked on 1893 maps. This was followed by the Houghton Main Colliery line and the Midland Railway Stairfoot and Cudworth line. There is significant legibility of these lines in surviving earthworks. This area is marked as woodland on 1775 maps. Parts of this wood survived until the 19th century.
