Large business park on the site of Highgate Colliery. The colliery opened in 1919 and the mine and associated railway sidings came to dominate this land. In 1962 Highgate was merged with Goldthorpe colliery, eventually leading to coal only surfacing at Goldthorpe. Highgate ceased production in 1985 and the area was landscaped to provide land for redevelopment. (Hill 2001, 167-9). There is fragmentary legibility of the railway lines associated with the mine as their routes survive even after removal of the tracks. There is no legibility of the former strip fields enclosed from the townfields around Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe.
