Bessacarr Primary school is first depicted on the 1967 OS map but is probably contemporary with the surrounding residential properties. Dating to the late 1940s/ early 1950s. Prior to this, the site was occupied by fields with straight and regular edges indicative of parliamentary enclosure. It was part of Bessacarr Low Field and probably farmed as an open field prior to enclosure in 1779 by the 'Cantley, Branton, Bessacarr and (High) Ellers' award. Legibility of the former landscape is invisible.
