Recreation ground that is part of the regeneration of Grimethorpe. Part of the farming core of historic Grimethorpe was within this polygon but it was mostly characterised by piecemeal enclosure, prior to this it was likely to have been part of the expansion of Brierley deer park that occurred in the late 16th century (Harrison & Watson 2006 [accessed 15/11/07]). The deer park is marked on 1610 maps but not on Jefferys 1775 map. This land would have been farmed by the inhabitants of the small hamlet of Grimethorpe in the medieval period. When the park was expanded the settlement was probably depopulated. There is no legibility of the former enclosed or parkland landscape.
