Terraced housing constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the eastern edge of Doncaster. The housing is tightly packed along a grid-iron plan, probably originally having yards rather than gardens. The terraces around St. Mary's Road and Auckland Road fall within the Thorne Road conservation area. Prior to this, the area was agricultural. It consisted of thin strip fields consolidated over time from the furlongs of open fields. Legibility of the former landscape is invisible.
