Recreation ground on the site of a short lived brickworks which was first mapped in 1893 but already marked as disused. The earthworks from the clay pit remained until relandscaped for the playground. Previously an area of regular enclosure likely to be part of the 1763 parliamentary award (date from English 1985) which enclosed 300 acres of common. There is fragmentary legibility of this field pattern in the boundaries of the site.
