Directly related to the sinking of Thurcroft Main Collier between 1909 and 1912 (Taylor2001, 141). These houses are associated with standing community buildings labelled in 1930 as 'Welfare Hal', 'Institute', 'Picture Theatre', 'Mission Hall', 'Thurcroft Hotel', and 'Bank'. Excellent example of a planned mining village. No legibility of earlier enclosed strip fields upon which this community was built.
