Area of irregularly enclosed land around the site of the former Strawberry Lee Grange, known to have been a grange of Beauchief Abbey by 1249 involved in Sheep farming. Demolished in 1936 (Garland and Young 1973 - see SMR 3831). Since 1933 this land has been in the ownership of Sheffield City Council as an amenity area (SCEEM 1996) as a part of the adjacent Blackamoor. Grazed for management purposes this area is now reused principally as a recreational space. The origin of the moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence).
