Large arable production units, produced by the removal of irregular and sinuous boundaries from an area which from Haywood's 1825 Enclosure Award plan appears to have bee enclosed piecemeal from a former open field in advance of 1825. A drift geology map of this area (in Lakin 2002, Fig 2) shows that this area is geologically characterised by sands raised slightly above the level of the alluvial plains of the Humberhead levels to the south and east. The areas of sand depicted on this map would appear to correlate with the occurrence of 'field' placenames such as 'Ashfields' and 'Mill Field'. Fragmentary legibility of earlier enclosure.
