This is a large agricultural area comprised of agglomerated fields containing the occasional farm. Originally part of Martin Common, the area was enclosed by parliamentary award, probably in the mid-18th century. During World War 2, Bircotes airfield was located on the site. There is very little trace of this left. After the war, agricultural production intensified resulting in the removal of field boundaries. Legibility of the former landscape is fragmentary as few of the parliamentary enclosure boundaries remain.
