City Road cemetery, also known as Sheffield Park. It is on English Heritage's Register of Parks and Gardens. A public cemetery, it was opened in 1881 by the Sheffield Township Burial Board. It is a good example of a late Victorian cemetery, which largely retains its original layout, features and structure planting although the south east quadrant is an extension of the original site. Earlier maps, including the Fairbanks plan of 1795 and the Sanderson map of 1835, show the area as fields with the characteristics of piecemeal enclosure. Prior to fields, the area was within the southern part of Sheffield Park, a medieval deer park. No legibility of earlier landscape.
