Present character one of very large modern agricultural units produced in the later 20th century by the agglomeration of smaller strip units shown on historic OS mapping. Area also includes a stretch of the relict track bed of the former Birley Collieries branch railway and late 1970s roads. The former strip enclosures probably represented the piecemeal enclosure of adjacent strip units from within the medieval open town field systems of Beighton and Woodhouse. Fragmentary legibility of occasional 's curve' boundaries.
