Area of regular modern enclosures which have been formed after the reinstatement of the land after opencast coal mining. 1966 OS maps show this area to consist of small irregular assarted enclosures dominated by annular spoil heaps from medieval ironstone mining. Mining is believed to have taken place in this area from the late 12th to the mid 15th century (South Yorkshire SMR PIN1724). There is no legibility of the former landscapes prior to the opencast mining.
