Aughton Junior school is first depicted on the 1974 OS map. Prior to this the land was agricultural being comprised of thin strip fields. These fields were probably enclosed from the medieval open fields of Aughton. Legibility of the former landscape is fragmentary. The curving eastern boundary and part of the southern boundary of the school fossilise strip field boundaries which are depicted on the 1st Edition OS map of 1855. The northern boundary partly fossilises the line of an old footpath.
