Housing (first depicted on 1931 maps) built on the edge of the Wharncliffe Silkstone colliery which may have housed senior staff at the mine. The houses are larger than the terraces built within the colliery yard. Built on an area of piecemeal enclosure of uncertain date which probably enclosed an area of commons at Pilley Green. There is fragmentary legibility of the enclosure landscape as the houses area built along the road which the enclosures ran off.
