Early terraces first shown on 1855 maps. Probably houses workers at the Tankersley ironstone seam. There has been some later infilling behind properties. Built on an area of surveyed enclosure of former common. Most of this land was probably enclosed as part of the Worsbrough parliamentary award of 1826 (date from English 1985). There is fragmentary legibility of the enclosures as some field boundaries are respected by the housing.
