This polygon outlines the northern part of the Fir View Estate which was the first freehold estate in the area. The Walkley Benefit Land and Building Society purchased the northern half of Heavygate Farm and developed 100 plots of 0.25 acres each. These plots were twice the size of the allotments on later Walkley freehold estates. Many of the plots in Carr Road remain as set out during this period and contain larger semi-detached or villa type houses. Legibility is however, invisible as the earlier agricultural landscape cannot be readily perceived. Harman and Minnis (2004, 282) date this development to c. 1849-65 however first edition OS (c1851-4) does not depict development.
