Now designated as a local nature reserve this wooded stream was the site of the Warren Vale Colliery sunk in 1837 (http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/Leisure/Countryside+and+Wildlife/_Warren+Vale.htm) and depicted as a working mine until 1938. The site is shown as a works on the 1967 and 1985 OS 1:10000 sheets. Partial legibility of colliery incline along the streamside to Kilnhurst possible.
