Elsecar workshops were developed in 1850 on the advice of the manager of the Elsecar Ironworks. This became an area where the maintenance of Earl Fitzwilliam's industrial enterprises were centralised. The workshops were associated with Earl Fitzwilliam's nearby collieries. They closed in 1986 (Bayliss 1995, 10). The area is preserved as part of a heritage centre. There is no legibility of the former enclosed landscape.
