The Eastwood Vale Estate began to be laid out around 1891. These streets were laid out at this time and housing plots developed around 1903 -1904, forming a grid iron block of terraces with higher class villas to the west of this polygon and higher density terraces to the east (now cleared). Parts of this polygon have been redeveloped (e.g. west side of St. John's Road) but 90% intact. Surviving contemporary retail units and pubs. Previously large piecemeal (probably grazing) enclosures shown on Kelk map (Ox close and New Close). Area resurveyed and laid out with straighter boundaries as sale plots by the Badger Brothers (Munford 2000, 117) in the mid 19th century.
