A series of disused quarries around Snailsden Moss. Some have been reused as tips which are now also disused. The quarries are listed on the 1851 OS map as being for 'flag & slate'. By 1894 the quarries have expanded from what is shown in 1851 however by 1906 maps a couple of quarries are labelled 'old quarry' which indicates that the quarries are closing and contracting. Significant legibility of moorland type as quarried areas have reverted. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region).
