This area saw major boundary loss during the period 1983 - 1997 during which time it lost the majority of its former strip enclosure hedges. The area is bounded to the north by the 'Sykehouse Barrier Bank' which provides flood protection from seasonal flooding of the River Went to the north of the former townfields. Studies of this bank have failed to produce a date of construction for this bank although they have revealed a detailed and complex stratigraphic record of repeated reconstruction and maintenance (Dodds 2003; McCluskey 2002). Possibly of medieval date. Fragmentary legibility of earlier occasional boundary pattern.
