Gypsy and traveller site which was first opened in 1979 on scrubland formerly used for sand and gravel extraction in the earlier part of the 20th century. Prior to this, the site was agricultural. It comprised small strip fields consolidated from the furlongs of the medieval open field. The open field area is shown still marked as 'West Field' on the 1st edition OS map of 1854. The site is reputed to have been the site of a medieval pottery kiln known through pottery and wasters recovered by excavation in the 1970s. Legibility of the former character is invisible.
