Area of long sinuous enclosure indicative of woodland clearance along the course of streams. Placename 'Shaw' also indicates there was woodland in the area (Field 1979, 199). These factors mean there is partial legibility of woodland. There has been some boundary loss since 1851 but this is mostly the subdivisions within the strips of assart which probably dated to 16th, 17th century. Shown as enclosed land on 1816 Thurlstone enclosure map.
