An infill development probably dating to the 1970s. The semi-detached housing infills the gaps around the site of Knowle Top at Stanninton, which is first shown as developed on the 1893 OS map. The 19th century development consists of a chapel and some detached houses. Scurfield (1986) suggests the area was originally common land that would have been enclosed by the Bradfield enclosure award of 1826. Legibility is fragmentary as the infill development mostly took place within the boundaries of earlier fields. The origin of the moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence).
