Medium density social housing estate that replaced some very high density, mostly Victorian, terraced housing. Map evidence shows that the smallest houses (probably only one room deep) were closest to the former hamlet of 'Middle Heeley' and probably developed at some time between 1851 and the introduction of common minimum standards for housing in the 1864 Housing Bylaws (Harman and Minnis 2004, 18). Victorian street pattern completely erased by redevelopment between the publications of the 1973 and 1985 1:10000 OS map sheets. No legibility of earlier strip field boundaries.
