This polygon covers the commercial core of Oughtibridge. It contains several shops, businesses and some pubs. It covers the area near Oughtibridge bridge and covers part of the historical core of the village. The first documentary reference to the village occurs in a charter of 1161 (Smith 1961, :226). Steel making gave impetus to the development of the village from the 18th century onwards through the various mills and tilts situated in the area. Legibility of the previous vernacular building tradition is partial with some the pubs appearing to be in the same buildings as depicted on the 1st edition OS map.
