Major intensification was undertaken of this area of land between 1938 and 1967 although there had been some progressive loss of internal divisions between 1851 and 1938. Only fragments of the boundaries shown on the 1851 OS survive; in the mid 19th century the area was enclosed by semi regular narrow strips surrounded by mature hedgerows, highly likely to have predated the parliamentary enclosure of North Anston in 1768 (English 1985, 104). Fragmentary legibility of the boundaries of a former medieval open field - bounded by streams and ancient tracks. 'Willow's' marked along Anston Brook on 1851 OS may represent osiers.
