Area of agglomerated fields which are outside of the boundary of the deer park. The former small enclosures are shown as small hedged enclosures on an etching of Tankersley park dated c.1730 (reproduced in Jones 1995, 81). The date of this enclosure is uncertain but it probably post dates the formation of the park in 1303 (date from Hey 1986, 81) as the enclosures appear to run off the edge of the park wall. There is fragmentary legibility of these enclosures but there has been significant boundary loss. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region).
