Terraced houses with back alley ways splitting the rear gardens. These properties would have houses miners in the nearby collieries. The housing built within the boundaries of earlier piecemeal enclosure. The road between the houses also follows the route of a former footpath so legibility is partial. This land may have been enclosed from a medieval townfield associated with Mapplewell; a settlement that is known from at least 1190-1210 (Smith 1961, 317).
