First established as a golf course between 1904 and 1938 on part of the former Thrybergh Deer Park. A grant of 'free warren was given to the local lord of the manor for the establishment of this park in 1259-1260 (Jones 1996, 115). This medieval hunting park probably evolved into a 'landscape park' in the 18th and 19th century.
