This large former residence, built between1855 (when this area was shown as the surveyed enclosure of 'Little Common') and 1877 when it was called 'Woodside'. The name appears to have been changed to 'Parkhead House' between 1891 and 1905 at the same time as it was substantially enlarged (evidence from maps and Picture Sheffield.com photographs). Built by and for architect JB Mitchell Withers 1864-5 and enlarged 1900 (English Heritage LBO) for metallurgist and industrialist Sir Robert Hadfield (HSY642 and HSY643) owner of East Hecla Works (at the far end of Sheffield's Don Valley.
