This polygon covers an area of former wetlands and forms part of a larger system of agglomerated fields. The area is depicted as being a plantation woodland from the 1st edition OS map of 1854 until the late 1960s. Originally probably created by the massive drainage programme of Vermuyden in the 17th century. Prior to this the land was probably wet and marshy meadows. Legibility of the former landscape is fragmentary as the field boundaries fossilise the area of the plantation.
