Public parkland developed since the closure of the local collieries in the 1980s. Jump pit was opened by Earl Fitzwilliam in 1816 (Cumberpatch 2003, 7) and is marked as 'old pit' by 1893 mapping. The shaft and associated railways lines remained until the 1980s. There is no legibility of the mine but there is fragmentary legibility of the former enclosure pattern in the layout of the remaining boundaries.
