Much of the Fitzalan Works were demolished in the early 21st century in preparation for the possible construction of a waste incineration facility. Some early frontages survive from the 19th century steelworks. The site was built for Marriott and Atkinson as a Steel and file making works alongside the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal . Description of the site in 1844 (Penny Magazine Supplement 1844, 121-128) includes references to Converting (cementation) furnaces as well as a tilting and shearing shop, rolling mill, Casting House (Crucible shop) engine hose and hand forges. Map evidence shows that the complex was heavily rebuilt during the later 19th century and enlarged throughout the 20th century. Fragmentary legibility due to street frontage. Significant archaeological deposits possible.
