Ranmoor House was constructed for the University of Sheffield in 1964. It was constructed on the site of the private gardens belonging to Tapton Hall. Tapton Hall was built in 1855 for Edward Vickers on the site of an earlier house called Tapton Grove. The land was enclosed in the Ecclesall enclosure award of 1788. Prior to this it probably formed part of Ranmoor. Legibility is invisible. The origin of the moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence).
