Detached and semi-detached villas in the Broomhill district of Sheffield. The area developed as the first suburb of Sheffield, to the west of the town. Situated away from the pollution of the town, impetus for the professional and middle classes to settle here was given by the opening of the turnpike road in 1821. Prior to the development of villas, many gardens or allotments appear to have been located in the area. Legibility of this earlier use is invisible.
