Part of the modern expansion of the commercial core of the town, mostly consisting of car parking. Built on an area of cleared terrace housing. This had been built for the expanding population of Wombwell in the 19th century. The opening of the Dearne and Dove Canal in 1804 opened up new coal markets and encouraged the opening of several large collieries nearby (Glister 1995, 118) drawing a large workforce into the town. This polygon falls within the medieval core of Wombwell and would have been within the crofts associated with housing along the High Street. There is no legibility of the housing or croft pattern.
