Until recently the character of the polygon was dominated by the Plough Inn which still stands on this site. The inn is marked on the 1st Edition map of 1855 although these buildings no longer stand and have been replaced by a building from the late 1920s/ early 1930s. A building is marked on the Fairbanks plan of 1795 and it is likely to be the inn. The character is now dominated by a series of low rise blocks of flats built in the early 21st century. Legibility is partial due to the survival of the inn.
