Tintagel House was built as a large Tudor style villa c.1855. Since the early twentieth century it has been home to a community attempting to live out the educational and cultural principles of Rudolph Steiner. It was to this end that the Merlin Theatre was built in the grounds of the house in 1965 and currently new units are being developed as a further education college for people with learning disabilities.
