Modern clay extraction on the edge of Whitley common. Dated after the 1983 map which still shows a small farm, Greenley Carr, which is present on the 1851 map. There is also a small sandstone quarry. The clay quarry was built on an area of parliamentary enclosure of Whitley Common (see also HSY40) which was previously open moorland. The origin of the former moorland landscape is uncertain though this area is likely to be moorland by the Roman period (see Bevan 2003 for discussion of environmental evidence in region). There are no remains of the farmstead but field boundaries do survive from early enclosure providing fragmentary legibility of this character type.
