The 1851 OS 6 inch to the mile map shows woodlands to the west of this area called 'Hollins Wood'. Adjacent to the west are irregular enclosures with lots of trees shown in the boundaries at 1st edition. Woodland shown as much more extensive at time of Jefferys' survey. Boundaries to the south and north have slight s-curve characteristics indicating former open field landscape. 19th century maps show this polygon bisected by a railway now visible only as a cropmark (CR aerial photograph)
