Date from the listed building legal description for Stumperlowe Hall which notes that the present building may represent a rebuilding of an earlier one. Stumperlowe Grange' to the east dates to at least the late 18th century. The hamlet of Stumperlowe, (the bounds of which probably lie within this area), appears in historical records from the late 14th century onwards (Hunter 1869, 383). Following the 1850s the surrounding fields were landscaped into a small parkland to the west and north. Fragmentary legibility of earlier building traces as noted by O'Neill (2002, 7). More recently the area of this polygon has been infilled with detached housing.
