School built by 1973 on an area of piecemeal enclosure that may have been part of an area of open field near Keresforth House. By 1649 these fields had been enclosed as Barnsley is recorded as having four townfields called Churchfield, Old Mill Field and Swinhill field (Elliot 2002, 37). These are marked on historic maps north east of the town. The boundary to the south east of the school gives fragmentary legibility of the past landscape. The field pattern predates Broadway.
