This land is enclosed by regular stone walls of noticeably straighter character than those closer to the village. The pattern is typical of 17th - 19th century 'surveyed enclosure' systems and may well be the result of a parliamentary award. Closer to the village are a group of smaller strip enclosures, which retain in part 's-curved' boundaries often considered diagnostic of former open field agriculture. nb.. English (1985, 98) lists a 1818 Act of Parliamentary Enclosure for 'Upper Midhope' but remarks "Award never completed".
