Earliest date researched by Crossley et al (1989, 20) for a forge of the Shrewsbury family. The surviving weir dates to 1825 when it was rebuilt by Naylor and Sanderson. The race is also shown on a 1768 plan of the complex (reproduced in ibid.) although much narrower that the surviving work. It is likely to have been widened at the time of the 1825 work. See HSY 729 for further details.
