Allotment gardens that appeared with the expansion of housing in Hemingfield. Some of the allotments area marked from 1893 mapping with further additions over the years. The allotments mostly fit within former field boundaries, giving partial legibility of the former piecemeal enclosure. Hemingfield was only a dispersed collection of farms up to the 19th century although Smith (1961, 103) dates its first documentation to 1276. This indicates the land may have been farmed, but not as part of a townfield system, in the medieval period.
