Originally built as the Borough Hospital For Infectious Diseases between 1877-1881, the building now houses the School of Nursing & Midwifery(Harman & Minnis 2004, 84). Prior to this, the area was covered by early allotments called 'Hollow Field Gardens' which were depicted on the 1st Edition OS map and the Fairbanks plan of 1808. These were probably created from fields enclosed in a piecemeal fashion. Legibility of the former landscape is invisible.
