Improved fundamental knowledge has led to refined archaeomagnetic techniques and a widening of the range of materials for study; for certain areas an annual, absolute time scale will probably be achieved within a decade. The properties of various materials (for example ditch silts laid down as slurry) should be examined now to allow their full exploitation when the archaeomagnetic time scale is established; sample-taking techniques are describcd. The process will be cheap and efficient and will help correction of the 14C curve for periods beyond the reach of tree-ring dating. | ||
