Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
In the wake of recent critiques of Roman studies relating to Scotland and the data on which they are based, pollen evidence from Black Loch (Fife), Loch Davan, and Braeroddach Loch (both in Grampian) is analysed and interpreted from the Flavian to the post-Severan period. Particular statements -- including that the relationship between occupying Roman forces and the indigenous population is relatively poorly understood, and that the effect of the Pax Romana led to settlement pattern changes in northern Britain -- are examined in the light of palynological evidence. There is an `Appendix' (24--5) providing the common names of taxa mentioned in the text and diagrams. | |||
