Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Detailed report on two buildings, at Torthorwald (NY 033785) and Canonbie (NY 394758). The former is a single-storeyed thatched structure, with late stone walls enclosing a framework of three crucks. The blades have a roundish, natural section, with other members scarfed on. One fireplace has a canopied hood. The second building, probably the most complete surviving clay-walled and cruck-framed structure in its region, has five cruck trusses. A discussion of the buildings in their context follows, in which a late 18th century date is suggested for both. E W | ||||
