Abstract:		 An Early Saxon sunken-floored building and other features, on the edge of the scarp overlooking the Thames floodplain; a mixed assemblage of charred plant remains from the fill of the sunken floor provided possible evidence of a mixture of flooring material and/or thatch which had been partly burnt before disposal (`Charred plant macrofossils and other remains', V Fryer & P Murphy, 54--56; `Palynological evidence', P E J Wiltshire, 56--57).
