Abstract:		 Small-scale excavation on the line of a gas pipeline alongside the A12 revealed a site dated to the Late Iron Age and the period immediately after the Roman conquest. Boundary ditches, gullies and pits were recorded at the south end of the pipeline, suggesting a probable settlement alongside the Roman London-Colchester road at this point.
