Sherds from 13 sites bring the total of known provenances in Scotland of Scarborough ware to 19, mostly in eastern coastal areas. Sherds of face-mask jugs have been found on 20 sites and kilns for their manufacture are known at Stenhouse near Falkirk and at Colstoun in E Lothian. Scottish face-mask jugs are divided into three types dating from the late 13th-16th centuries. Evidence is accumulating for a direct east coast pottery trade between Scotland and Yorkshire during the late 13th and early 14th centuries AD.
