Abstract:		 Summarizes the present state of knowledge about medieval medical practice (documents and archaeobotany) before describing the prospection for the site and its excavation strategy. Geophysical survey and the available documents are then described. The potential is foreshadowed by recent finds at Jedburgh Abbey of whipworm ova together with quantities of pollen of tormentil, an effective treatment for that complaint.
