Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken in response to an application to construct a Business Development Centre and conversion of the nearby Stepney Pottery buildings. Parts of the proposed development area was situated either directly in, or very close to the corridor of Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A previous site assessment failed to identify any remains of the Wall itself, but did identify the possibility of the associated remaining ditch. During the evaluation, a dark organic fill was located, which may have represented the upper fill of the Wall Ditch. Remains of the Stepney Pottery buildings were identified, as well as the possible remains of a 19th century Copperas Works. There was also evidence for much of the site being made ground. [Au(adp)] |
