Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that it had lain within parkland to the north of Henley Park House, which was of 17th century and later date. A Roman coin hoard and the site of a 17th century pottery kiln had been recorded in the surrounding area, and a medieval village was known to have existed within Henley Park, although its location had been lost. A medieval moated site, possibly the site of the medieval manor, lay to the south of Henley Park House. During a visit to the proposal site, it was observed that a large amount of disturbance had taken place within the area of the current buildings, although the extent of disturbance within a football pitch to the east was uncertain. It was recommended that a watching brief should be carried out during development, focusing primarily on the area of the football pitch. [AIP] |
