Abstract: |
The review of documentary evidence undertaken for this study points to some possible areas where surviving archaeological deposits may be found. The northern and eastern part of the development site may be the area in which the earliest settlement at Melcombe, pre-1260, was situated, it is possible there may be deposits, especially waterlogged timber, which have not been disturbed by subsequent activity. The other parts of the site may well contain remains pertaining to the medieval and post-medieval development of Weymouth. [Au(adp)] |
