Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation at the St Swithins Church uncovered three burials predating the construction of the aisle in the mid 13th century. From the positions of the burials and the lack of grave goods, the burials were regarded as Christian. Although direct dating evidence was lacking, it was concluded that all three could be dated to somewhere between the first phase of the church construction in the 11th century and the construction of the aisle in the mid 13th century. The presence of post-medieval material in the upper levels suggests further disturbance into the later periods. [Au(adp)] |
