Abstract: |
The sources consulted indicated that the development site lay within an area of historical and archaeological interest. The cartographic evidence did not reveal any major activity on the site in its more recent history, and similarly the SMR search revealed no entries for the site itself. However, both sources did highlight the proximity of the site to the early medieval St Bartholomew's complex, which was clearly an area of interest. It was most probable that a cemetery accompanied the hospital, but the whereabouts of this was unknown and it was possible that this cemetery or other unrecorded components of St Bartholomew's were present within the proposal site.
