Abstract: |
The watching brief identified a number of walls on similar alignments, both stone and brick, with a related mortared brick floor. Two conjoined buildings certainly occupied the site in 1798. The first was seemingly the present Old Mill Inn, the second probably that of the earliest stone foundations observed during the project. The Elmley Castle tithe map showed a larger building attached to the dwelling, described in the apportionments as a 'house, garden and malthouse'. It seemed likely that the later brick building with brick floors was probably the malthouse. [Au(abr)] |
