Abstract: |
A desk top study of the proposed site of a residential development was undertaken. Artefacts dating from the Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age, a Late Bronze Age enclosure and three Iron Age farmsteads had been recorded in the surrounding area. Roman cremations, a possible villa site, a coin hoard and 6th-7th century pottery had also been found. Medieval remains in the vicinity included a moated site, a deer park, an enclosure and a number of dene holes. A Grade II Listed water tower dating from 1903 lay on the site itself. Much of the planned construction work was to take place on plots which had been disturbed by previous development. A watching brief during groundworks was recommended. [AIP] |
