Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a site proposed for a housing development identified that the study area lay within an area which appeared to have been farmed in the Roman period, and may have seen earlier occupation. Placename and map evidence suggested that the three fields involved represented part of a former open-field system dating from at least the medieval period. Since enclosure the land seemed to have been mainly devoted to grazing or the cropping of hay. [Auths words] |
