Abstract: |
During the archaeological evaluation fragments of pottery, brick, slate, peg tile, glass, animal bone and iron nails were recovered. What appeared to be a brick laid floor was identified in one of the trenches, possibly representing the remnants of previous buildings' cellar floor or the floor of a brick-lined cess pit. If the latter suggestion was true, it would have suggested a large property having been located on the site, indeed a parish map of 1828 showed a building named 'Lancasterian School' in the locality of the development area. Nothing was observed within the trench to indicate which suggestion would be more likely. [Au(adp)] |
