Abstract: |
The results of a walkover survey combined with evidence gained from the archaeological, map, documentary and aerial photograph sources for the proposed route of the South Lowestoft Relief Road, indicated that it had a low potential to contain any extensive evidence for past settlement sites or related activities. The southern half of the route had more potential to contain isolated archaeological structures or finds of interest with Kirkley Bridge, in particular, being of potential medieval origin. However, recent and present landuse over the southern part of the route was extremely intensive and no earthwork evidence could be seen for mills, weirs or any other water-course type features.
