Abstract: |
An archaeological trenching programme was undertaken in advance of the proposed regeneration of the former Smith's Docks for residential and related uses. No conclusions could be drawn with regard to the presence of medieval or earlier remains on the site. Although no such remains were encountered, it was possible that they may have been masked by the depth of overburden particularly around the foot of the hill which defined the Bull Ring. The nature of archaeological remains found on the site and the depth of the overburden did not support a recommendation for further evaluation, however, a watching brief was recommended. [Au(abr)] |
