Abstract: |
The excavation revealed layers of disturbed human burials which had been dug up and dumped as charnel. Cut through these layers were at least nine east-west aligned burials, possibly encoffined, although this was only evidenced by the presence of wood stains and a few coffin nails in association with some of the bodies. The deposits, relating to the churchyard of St Winifred's, had been subject to disturbance on several occasions. Demolition debris from an unidentified structure, pre-dating at least one of the burials, was uncovered. [Au(abr)] |
