Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of land in the north-western corner of the parish of Frampton-on-Severn identified that the proposal area was located adjacent to earthworks of a Deserted Medieval Village with associated ridge and furrow earthworks. Evidence of Romano-British occupation in the area and more extensively to the north-east had also previously been documented. Post-medieval activity was represented by the Gloucester and Sharpness canal which defined the north edge of the site. However, the shallow deposition of the natural Lias clay on site combined with the construction of Grain Store buildings would undoubtedly have caused considerable disturbance to earlier archaeological levels.
