Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out. The township of Benwell was first mentioned c.1050 and was settled from the medieval period through to the modern day. The site's location in the centre of Benwell Village fronting Ferguson's Lane and was occupied for much of this period before the construction of the public houses in the 1930s, as was evidenced by historic mapping.
