Abstract: |
A watching brief was held on the groundwork's associated with the construction of a new dwelling. No evidence for the 'Shitlake', that was expected to cross the site was certainly identified. The area immediately to the west of the original 25 Bell Street property was only observed to a maximum depth of 0.6m. Only a 20th century garden soil was observed here. The situation in the car park to the west was different. A layer of gravel of uncertain date was overlain by a soil horizon. It probably started as an agricultural soil at an unknown date, but developed into a garden soil during the post-medieval period. [Au(adp)] |
