Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that Roman coins, Roman pottery and a Romano-British brooch had been found in the vicinity, and that the route of the London to Silchester Roman road passed nearby. A Neolithic pit and Roman ditches had also been found, whilst prehistoric flints, medieval artefacts and a possible Roman ditch had been exacvated at one site. Cartographic evidence indicated that the proposal area had remained undeveloped until at least 1935. It was concluded that the site had a high archaeological potential, and that trial trenching should be carried out. [AIP] |
